City Clerk Sarah Johnson will conduct a virtual information session for potential candidates to the Colorado Springs City Council district seats. The presentation will take place on January 4th, 2021 at 9 a.m.
This informational session will be essential for candidates and their teams to understand specific details relevant to running for City Council. The City Clerk highly encourages anyone considering running for Council office to attend.
Colorado Springs City Clerk Sarah Johnson stated, “In the training session, potential candidates will learn the responsibilities of being a council member, the steps required have their name placed on the ballot and the campaign finance requirements.”

More about the district election process
On Monday, January 4, 2021, City Council candidates for the April 6, 2021 General Municipal election can begin to circulate nominating petitions. Elected positions on the April ballot will include the six District City Council seats.
Candidate filing documents and nominating petitions will be available beginning 8 a.m., Monday, January 4, 2021. They can be picked up in the City Clerk’s Office (30 South Nevada Avenue, Suite 10), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Petitions must be returned to the City Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. on Monday, January 25th, 2021.
The candidate filing period begins on January 4th and ends at 5PM on January 25th. Candidate filing packets will be available at the City Clerk’s office beginning 8 a.m. on January 4th. Candidates may come into the office to pick-up or request a packet be mailed.
The City Clerk will conduct a candidate training session on the morning of January 4th and it will be recorded and posted on the City website, coloradosprings.gov.
