Be the Difference. Be Valued. Belong.

Since the late 1800s, the Colorado Springs Police Department has maintained a standard of excellence that you would be proud to join. We embrace a proactive policing, or Community Oriented Policing, philosophy, rather than only crime response.  We seek to understand and focus on why crimes are committed and find ways to remove the conditions that are most likely to lead to criminal activity. We expect our officers and civilian to exhibit this philosophy and actively create community and police partnerships that identify problems and craft solutions.

It’s not just something we do, it’s who we are! First Responders make a difference.

Through a rigorous testing and qualification process, we ensure that only the most qualified individuals earn the right to wear our badge. Continuous hiring

The Colorado Springs Police Department will accept applications all year for police academies that will start every 18 weeks.  After applying for the position of Police Recruit or Police Lateral Recruit, you will immediately receive information about the online written examination and oral boards.  After successfully completing the testing process, those candidates who score in Band A – D will move directly to the background process. Additional bands may be considered based on academy size.  Continuous testing and hiring will reduce the amount of time you have to wait to see if you have been selected for an academy.

Below is the schedule of upcoming academies and the dates applications will be available.  Please apply when applications open for the time in which you are able to start employment.

Become a Community Service Officer

Have you considered being a Community Service Officer (CSO)? CSOs assist police officers by responding to and investigating lower priority calls for service. CSOs do not respond to any calls for service where the incident is in-progress or the suspect is still on scene.
