On Thursday, August 31, 2023, members of the Colorado Springs Police Department received a call for service regarding an auto/pedestrian crash in the 6900 block of North Academy Boulevard.
The driver of the involved vehicle has been identified as 76-year-old Richard Goodwin. Mr. Goodwin was charged with Careless Driving Resulting in Death.

On Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 7:54 AM, members of the Colorado Springs Police Department were dispatched to a parking lot in the 6900 block of North Academy Boulevard regarding a traffic crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, officers located a white sedan in the parking lot with a pedestrian trapped under the vehicle. Medical personnel on the scene determined that the pedestrian was deceased.
Due to the nature of the crash, the Major Crash Team was notified and responded to assume the investigation. Neither speed nor alcohol is considered a factor in this traffic crash.
On Friday, September 1, 2023, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy of the deceased pedestrian. The pedestrian has been identified as 51-year-old Colorado Springs resident Marcus Bogart.
This is the 30th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this same time last year, there were 36 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs. In the past 365 days, there have been 50 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs.
