On September 29, 2023, at 10:24 AM, officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department were dispatched to the area of Centennial Boulevard and North 30th Street regarding a single-vehicle crash. On arrival, officers located a motorcycle in the southbound lanes and the motorcycle rider on the shoulder of the roadway.
Colorado Springs Fire Department medical staff determined the motorcycle rider was deceased on scene. Due to the nature of the crash, the Major Crash Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
The initial investigation indicated the motorcycle was southbound on Centennial when it lost control and struck the west curb. The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and struck a tree. The initial investigation indicated speed was a contributing factor in the crash.
On October 2, 2023, the El Paso County Corners Office conducted an autopsy on the deceased motorcycle rider. The rider has been identified as 27-year-old William Sutter.
This is the 36th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. At this same time last year, there were 45 traffic fatalities in Colorado Springs. In the past 365 days, Colorado Springs has had 47 fatal traffic crashes.
