Mayor Yemi Mobolade announced Aimee Cox as Chief Housing and Homelessness Officer for the City of Colorado Springs at his 2024 State of the City address on September 9, 2024.
"We are so fortunate to have Aimee return to the City in this new role," said Mayor Yemi. "She was one of the first architects of our region’s homeless response, and she has a 20-year track record of maximizing existing resources and collaborating with faith leaders, nonprofits, businesses and builders to create safe places for people to go. I am excited about bringing back Aimee’s high energy, impressive leadership and lived experience to this important work. She inherits a great team, and great work is already underway in this space. I look forward to seeing what the team will accomplish with their unwavering commitment to improving our community’s health and prosperity."
Cox grew up in Colorado Springs and previously worked for the City in various roles from 2002-2017, including as Community Development Manager and as the Colorado Springs City Council’s first administrator under the strong-mayor form of government. She later joined the Mayor’s Office to address the growing homelessness problem. She returns to the City of Colorado Springs after serving in roles as Chief Impact and Strategy Officer for the San Diego region's Regional Task Force on Homelessness and Senior Advisor for National Healthcare and Housing Advisors.
The Chief Housing and Homelessness Officer will work with the Mayor to lead the City's efforts to meet strategic priorities for addressing our community's housing and homelessness challenges.
Cox's start date is October 14, 2024.
