A much improved section of the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail opened earlier than anticipated this week.
Phase One, which is now open, runs from the overpass at I-25 and Rockrimmon Boulevard to Criterium Bicycles. The project replaced deteriorated asphalt with a wider and more durable concrete surface, plus an adjacent gravel running trail. Damaged bridge decking was also removed and replaced and several drainage and stormwater improvements were achieved.
A detour is still in place while work completes on the second and third phases, so please follow detour signage. The full project covers a 1.25-mile stretch of trail. It runs north to the confluence of Cottonwood Creek along Monument Creek, near Pikes Peak Indian Motorcycle. The remaining two phases on track to be complete in May 2022.
This work is funded by a grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation and the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority. The estimated total cost is $1 million.
